2000s Art of Renee Radell

Artist Bio highlights. The turn of the millennium meant new expanded space and light, beneficial for the 2000s art of Renee Radell.  The move to a large studio in Chelsea, Manhattan high above street level, prompted experimentation with new media, shapes, sizes and materials.  For Radell, then approaching 80 years old, every day in the studio was a challenge to animate the inanimate.

Radell’s lifetime dedication to figurative art increasingly assumed the three dimensional. Terracotta,  paper mache and artist modeling materials became figurines mounted on various board shapes and surfaces, summoned to dance or writhe on command. For example,  she created the “cutout” series of paintings on board with irregular outer-edges.  Similarly, important wall mural pieces using mixed media such as Raindrops Ceremonial Triptych and Involution with Participants were created in Radell’s 2000s art time frame.

The end of the first new millennium decade set the stage for beginning of a strong series of contemporary abstract paintings, many with with musical art themes.  Ever a lover of classical music and jazz, just as a simple chord well struck conveys harmony, each new artistic statement using form, color, composition and mixed media was its own symphony for this artist.

Finally, the 2000s art period of Renee Radell achieved a new milestone with the successful sale of Bleecker Street Bride at Christies New York in 2009.
